Zenni Eyeglasses 2Zenni Eyeglasses 2

It took me most of my childhood to realize that I actually enjoy wearing spectacles. I have just ordered two new pairs, my fourth and fifth pairs this year, from zennioptical.com. The tartan pair are their super cheap $8 basics, and the larger brown frames (which I actually ordered in a different color, tortoiseshell) will be sunglasses at $15.

Thrift Store QuiltThrift Store Quilt 2

I went to a yardsale today, and along with piles of sheets for the shop, I got this quilt. It was sewn completely up in two white sheets, and I could kind of see a quilt pattern through it. The lady offered to sell it to me for a quarter, and I did not want to ask any questions in case she figured out how much more someone would have paid for it. I got it home and ripped the sheets off and found this! The wormanship is not great, but the colors and over all effect are. The pink rectangles have degraded so much because they are silk. The fading makes me think they were already part of a worn out grament when they were used. Maybe a pink silk dress.

There is no way in hell I will ever pay $500 for a dress, a pair of shoes, and a bracelet. $494 before tax and shipping, to be precise. Not even if I got to star in some kind of strange high school theater production, or whatever is going on here.

What drew me to this look in their new catalogue was the fact that I already own it. And I paid $31 for it.

Their dress: $288

Their cute T-Strap heels: $138

Their hideously ugly plastic bracelet: $68

y dress is long out of the store, and my shoes were on clearance, but look what it took me 15 minutes to find.

Halter dress (no ruffle, but is the ruffle worth $238 to you?) $50

Cute shoes. Great color! $12.

Glass-is-better-than-plastic bracelet: $19.9

Total? $81.95. I know what I am buying.

Vintage Sears Kenmore sewing machine cabinet

May 31st, 2008

Thrifted for $5. The sewing machine is missing many parts but would probably work if anyone could be bothered fixing it. I am going to replace it entirely with a Singer I inherited from my great grandmother. Needs to be stripped and finished in less hideous varnish. The photographs make the color look much better than it is.
