The grit that remains

Brown yarn from a cone of superwash wool from eBay, hand dyed by me with purple, orange and green spots. Overdyed with a bit of yellow and pink as well for extra texture.

Dyed in a fit of jet lag on the 12th. Arrived with the other swapper, so now I can show it here.

knit in Scotland as a Christmas present for my mother.

TLC Cara Mia on 5.5 mm needles. This was a fantastic knit, the cable pattern is really intuative. This is the smallest size but knit at a larger gauge. Stretches to between 40 and 45 inches in the body, there is no waist shaping so this size is consistant throughout.

I am so tempted to cast aside everything and devote myself madly to this sweater.

I finished this at the beginning of the month, but it has been way too hot to model a wool vest until now. I like the vest but I think it is not the greatest choice for my shape. Maybe it would look better over a long sleeved thermal t.

The pattern and the super light and fluffy hadspun yarn were well matched and made for a quick, fun knit. And yes, I know that my shirt needs to be ironed.

Morning Glories

Two slubby plies of wool and mohair blend that I hand dyed, wrapped gently with a hand dyed silk thread strung with siver glass beads. 72 yards, bulky. Maybe for sale?

A so called ugly batt from High Prarie fibers. Spins up light and beautiful, yet strangely like dryer lint. I love it. 220 yards of light worsted weight, about 1/8 of the huge bat spun up.

I loved this pattern. It was easy to knit. I wound up knitting the smallest size to make up for using a rather bulky yarn, and I think the subtle self striping highlights the beautiful short row shaping.

I have sewn the collar down all the way around since the photos were taken. You can see it curling at the top even with the two rows of crochet I added. I am also thinking about swapping the button out for a wooden toggle.

And here is a sneak preview of a pattern I hope to have for download by the end of the month. It is already charted and the pattern is ready to go in the colors shown, but I am going to chart it in a few more colorways and give some options for using shetland wool, the new knitpicks heathers, or maybe since there is -gasp- no steaking in this fair isle sweater I will even include a few superwash sock yarn color charts.
